About the Show

At first sight, Rose Paratore’s ‘Alive in Color” can be seen as an exploration and nod to early Abstract Expressionism with its splashes and drips of paint, marks, and free-spirited movement. However, this series brings a fresh, in-the-moment personal flair to the forefront of each painting. Paratore’s approach will tickle and illuminate the viewer’s perspective of ‘abstract’.

Paratore’s Pieces have a strong feel of playfulness. Viewing these paintings is like floating in color. The playfulness is not frivolous or careless; there is intention and thoughtfulness, composition, design, and strong, freeing expression. 

Paratore invites you into her magical journey with cartwheels of flowers, shapes, and a vivid and contrasting kaleidoscope of colors. 

Numerous underlayers of color and lacelike patterns peek through; there are shapes similar to children’s wooden building blocks - one shape holding another or falling and tumbling. Words are placed like a whisper. Both light and dark shadows dance with one another, adding to the movement. 

Paratore creates many pathways to wander and wonder. While standing back, the viewer may even find tunnels leading to labyrinths, akin to an Alice and Wonderland backdrop.
