Jill shares some thoughts about her Nevada City Winery Show:
“Spring is here! I am particularly glad to see it this year, and my new paintings reflect how inspired I feel by the landscape of these Sierra foothills. After all the lovely rain, the growth and vibrancy happening in the natural world is heartening. On a visit to Table Mountain, last year (the flowers!) inspired a series of meadow paintings with high horizon lines, something I continue to focus on this spring. I imagine myself immersed in that landscape, traversing the meadows, heading up the hills. The paths in my paintings—some obvious and some subtle—are a metaphor for the ways in which we wander through our lives, the choices we make, and the obstacles on our way. I am exploring the ideas around arrival and attainment, the journey, and the question of whether there is a destination.”
Jill Mahanna is a fine art oil painter. She has been painting the landscape of the Sierra foothills for 25 years. Jill grew up in Delaware and went to school at Duke University, graduating with degrees in fine art and art history. She came to the Sierra foothills in 1992, working as a graphic designer and then raising two children. She is a Resident Artist at the ASiF Visual Arts Center in Grass Valley. Currently, she has dual full-time jobs parenting and painting. “…I am grateful and fulfilled.”
