About the Show
Artist Elizabeth Titus’ "Atmospheric Landscapes and Other Roads Home" has a wondrous vastness. In every inch of these paintings, movement contrasts with stillness, and a feeling of momentum toward unfettered discovery is also present.
This new series of abstract landscapes contains an atmosphere of reverie, possibility, release, and what it means to be present while letting go.
Central to this series of spacious landscapes are Titus’ masterfully painted ephemeral clouds. They tumble, float, and dance with the mountains and waterways. They reflect golden light, vivid day and night blues, foggy grays, greens, rusty orange-reds, all her colors gently diffuse. Clouds are beautiful and full yet have a quality of backlit translucence, some are almost transparent whisps.
Whether swirling or calm the deep waterscapes seem to beckon as they mirror the cool moonlight or warm summer light.
Titus’ paintings have complexity with multi-layered subtle and nuanced details.
Beyond the panoramic views of skyscapes and landscapes, Titus adds mystery to these places of solace, allowing us to expand our dreams and interpret both freely.
Artist Statement
Artist Elizabeth Titus talks about her show “Atmospheric Landscapes and Other Roads Home” at the Nevada City Winery Gallery.
Painting has always been my go-to. It's been an arrow to chase the skies, grow up, get lost, love, lose, reclaim. I've always painted abstract landscapes, sparked now by the natural forms and inspirations which lay abundant here in Nevada City: the crush of a branch along Deer Creek, rocks and foliage, clouds scrolling by, terra, precious water flowing through history. My faithful mentors Van Gogh, Rauschenberg, and Diebenkorn always come along. Broken bones, friend passages, and the deepest appreciation of life with nature inform these current works.
All paintings are acrylic mixed medium on canvas.

About the Artist
Elizabeth Titus is known for her atmospheric landscapes of sky, land, sea, and dreams. Elizabeth received a Bachelor of Arts after studying painting, printmaking, and sculpture both in America and abroad. She has been painting for over 4 decades which includes artworks, murals, and commissions all over the US. She has exhibited throughout California, including the San Jose Institute of Contemporary Arts, Backdoor Gallery Petaluma, and Seven Stars Nevada City. Her California roots run deep; Elizabeth's family has been in California since 1850. She paints and lives in Nevada City in a lovingly restored 1890’s home.
