Hal's 2022

Thanksgiving Wine Picks

Need help selecting wines to compliment your Thanksgiving dinner? Our winemaker, Hal Hanifl, along with the Nevada City Winery team, have put together a list of the best wines to pair with each course.

Appetizers

Both the 2018 Sauvignon Blanc and 2021 Sangiovese Rosé pair wonderfully with classic appetizers. We specifically recommend creamy brie cheese, spinach artichoke dip, and roasted red pepper hummus.

Main Course

It's true, some people just prefer white to red - and vise versa! If you have a split group, we recommend opening a bottle of the 2020 Chenin Blanc and the 2017 Zinfandel to pair with your main course.

We had a slight preference toward the Chenin Blanc with turkey, and the Zinfandel with ham. As an added bonus, both taste amazing with stuffing!

Side Dishes

Potatoes, brussel sprouts, green beans, and squash - Oh My! There are so many side dishes to choose from. But odds are, most dinner tables will include a potato based dish this November.

If you opt for mashed potatoes, we suggest the 2017 Chardonnay. For cheesy scalloped potatoes, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon is a match made in heaven.

Dessert

Whether you eat dessert first or last, we know exactly which wines to pair with them!

The 2018 Reserve Chardonnay pairs well with berry or fruit based dishes - it's the perfect compliment to apple pie! The 2016 Merlot is made for rich, chocolate based dishes. Pair it with fudge, truffles, or chocolate covered nuts.
